Am using Artlantis Studio 2 with all the latest upgrades and I model in Vectorworks.
The problem is that randomly when I have export my model to artlantis I end up with this massive list of unused materials as per the attach jpeg. I have no idea what they are or where they come from but I would love to to know how to stop it happening.
actually, I just found out that if I right click the material and select delete unused materials then it all goes away. However, I would still love to know where they come from...

The right click is the solution, you can delete the unused materials.
From where they come from? It's a hard question because I'm less familiar with VW. In any case, there has to be some already defined materials which aren't associated to any geometry.

Hello Woolfson,
When you export to Artlantis which option do you use:
Class? Color? or Material Name?

I have the same problem - materials are exported as "class" - after maybe 3 or 4 updates from VW to artlantis the "unused materials" start to appear in the artlantis model (I have too many classes set up to switch to "colour" or "material") - problem is:
1 - unused materials continue to accumulate until file is double or triple in size
2 - as file grows larger, performance drops significantly
3 - export from VW can take 5 to 10x longer once there are a few hundred "unused materials" in the file
4 - after using "delete unused materials" I am usually unable to save the model
A few interesting points:
1 - trashing and reinstalling the VW export plugin quickens the export process
2 - saving to "new file" and then referencing old file cleans up all "unused materials"
only problem is that artlantis crashes if objects are grouped within the model - I have to ungroup all objects and save old file before using it as a reference.
To be honest these bugs are a real pain and have not been fixed over several updates. I am considering upgrading to 3.0 but unless I know these issues have been fixed I won't follow through.

ps - would be nice to not be required to upgrade VW just to get use of the new plugin for 3.0 - software is considerably more expensive here in Asia and frankly the only reason I would upgrade VW is for functionality with artlantis - a rather expensive upgrade in my opinion for something I don't need...is it really that difficult to make the plugins backward or forward compatible?
