Hi,
I'm new to this, so this may sound retarded.

Ok, I have a wooden beam, I rotated the top texture so that the grain would be oriented the way I want it. However, rotating the texture caused the sides of the beam to have incorrect texture.

And you also set the mapping of the texture to Orthogonal? At the bottom of the texture mapping window is a field you need to set.
By default textures are projected vertical and then you can get what you showed us.

Next time try to upload a jpg image. Tiff doesn't show.
