Does anyone know what causes my sofa to light up the wall during this movie?

If you look closely, it appears that the other adjacent surfaces (sofa arms, pillow, etc.) are also affected. Have you examined the shader properties closely? And I suspect your using radiosity. Remember that combining radiosity with highly specular surfaces is a sure-fire recipe for glow-like artifacts in your renders.

I'll bet if you play around with the specularity of your shaders, and adjust the radiosity settings, you can improve the output. Of course, a more neutral sofa material would help also.

I'll follow this post with three images to illustrate this. Notice that the image with radiosity off and less specular surfaces virtually eliminates the glow effect.

Oops, I think I attached the wrong file. I wish there was a way to edit these posts. This should be the correct file for:

Radiosity on - less specular.

Hi Mike,

Do you have any Neon shaders in your file? If so try an animation without them. Because I have had the same flickers like you on an animation where I used the Neon shader. But when I don't use Neon, I hardly ever have problems.

Cheers

Joseph

Thanks for the advice, yes I do have neon shaders, maybe I'll try with these off, but this should not really happen eh!

Yes use H264, Make sure you have the latest version of Quick Time "7.1". Just before you render choose H264 under "options" then hit render.
