Hello,

I use sketchup to model files and export to Artlantis. When the sketchup model needs to be changed and updated, I export to artlantis and 'Use reference file' tool on the outdated artlantis file. Everything is brought in perfectly EXCEPT the properties of materials that have textures.

i.e materials in sketchup such as glass that has no assigned texture is updated in artlantis when using the 'reference file' with the correct reflections and properties which were assigned in the outdated artlantis file.

However materials that in sketchup have assigned textures seem to ignore the 'reference file' properties and all textures assigned to the shader are set to default (0 reflection, 1 shininess, 0 bump etc). This is very frustrating because then I have to setup all these shaders again manaully to match the outdated artlantis file.

Why is this happening? (I'm using artlantis 2.033 on vista x64 on a powerful worksation and exporter version 2.0 for sketchup.)

Thank you

almost cracked it...

following some research, i realised that the shader names in the new export are given a different numbers?! (i.e from concrete_1 it changes to concrete_2 or 3) so the 'use reference' ignores them because it can't find the same names in order to updated/replace.

Anyone know why this is happening or what can be done to keep the same material names?

I tried export a simnple cube with 3 different materials and the 'use reference file' works perfectly (no re-numbering there)but with large models with lots of textures it goes all wrong by re-namaing/re-numbering the materials.

Okay this post is fairly old, but I've had the same problem with textures losing their properties and I've noticed that it is only with certain textures; some come in just fine. I think Richard was definitely on to something in that the materials that didn't reference right were one's with numbers in the name. I think this would include SketchUp materials that are left with the general name material_3 etc. I am going to try taking all of the numbers out of my material names (including renaming some of the shaders in my reference files) to see if that solves the problem.
