I just posted this under the general discussion heading as well:
OK, I guess I'm as good a guinea pig as the next guy. I use Vectorworks 12.5 as my modeler, and just loaded the Artlantis R update (v1.22) to use on my MacBook Pro (Intel chip, OS 10.4.8).
The first issue was crashing. I had it crash twice when I was trying to move a few things around in my catalog. For some reason, a few things that were there don't show up in my catalog after updating. It behaves like a newly installed program, not an upgrade, so I had to set up my windows and preferences again. That is only a minor annoyance, but I am concerned if I am crashing before trying anything challenging.
My bigger issue, though, is that when I save a file from Vectorworks and open it in Artlantis R, it says that it will have to convert the file format and I won't be able to open it in older versions. No big deal, I think, and proceed to work on lighting and texturing a new model. After getting it pretty close, I wanted to go back and adjust the model in VW. After I did this, and tried to save the file, however, Vectorworks would no longer recognize the file to update it. This means that I will have to redo all of the work that I just put into my Artlantis file if I can't update my previous file.
Do I need to wait for another export plugin to be developed for Vectorworks to avoid having to save a new file each time I modify it in Vectorworks? I don't see anything on the downloads page indicating that one exhists yet. It would appear that there is a new file format with this minor upgrade and that we need a new plugin. Grrrrrrrr.
THE SOLUTION:
I just figured it out. When I try to save an .atl file that has been modified in Vectorworks, I now have to tell Vectorworks that the file is Artlantis Studio instead of Artlantis R.
It would seem that there is a slight variant in the file types and Vectorworks no longer recognizes them as R files after upgrading to Artlantis R v1.22. A mention of this in the Read Me file would have saved me a lot of grief.
