Hi Roberta,
and thanks a lot to Luciano.
I already downloaded the objects and they are very nice.
On thing I wanted to tell all who are dealing with large 3d-objects.
You may use Polygoncruncher to make these files and 3d-objects smaller.
I took the castania and I was able to reduce this tree from something around 430.000 polygons down to 230.000 Polygons without a lack in quality. That means half the size in memory and much faster rendering. UV-coordinates will be kept and so there is no problem with the texturing.
Cheers
Patrick

... only x 3d studio max ... you can not buy a software of thousands of dollars, only x reduce the polygons of trees or heavy objects? ... otherwise we use mental ray, not artlantis. :-)

Greetings, Luciano

Hi Roberta,
hi Luciano,
think there was a misunderstanding. The software I was talking about is made by mootools: http://www.mootools.com/plugins/us/3dbrowserpro/index.asp#cruncher
There is some explorer, specialized on 3d-objects "3D Photo Browser" and you can buy this explorer in combination with "Polygoncruncher". Price is 129 US$. Not worth to talk about if you look at the advantages.
I use 3D Photo Browser to organize all the 3D models I collected and as I wrote before I use Polygoncruncher before I convert a model into aof. Most of the time it works perfect and easy. You can open/load 3ds, obj, lwo, dxf and so on. Yesterday I found a 3d model of a woman sitting on a chair talking with a phone. Something around 500.000 Polygons and converted into aof round about 47 MB. I used Polygoncruncher and now the size of this woman is only something around 24 MB. Best is if setting are OK the UV-coordinates will be kept and you can easily retexture the new smaler file in ATL using the original textures of the model.
Same I made with all the grass and plants I found on archiradar.
I opened the in ATL 3. Exported them as obj. opened them in §D Browser. Started Polygoncruncher. Took almost 47 % of the Polygons away. Saved as new obj. Opened in ATL and retextured them. Sounds complicated but only you only need about 5 minutes for some object like a good looking tree. Now these objects are much easier to handle in ATL.
Cheers
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

sounds interesting, though it obvioulsy means more work. But as long as I have problems in complex projects with lots of trees...

Can you give us an example? Tree before and after? Less polygons always mean less quality, at least that's what I thought.

Greetings,
Lars

Hi Lars,
the grass attached is only a bad example but at the moment I'm a little busy.
Even if the MB of the file is more ore less the same the number of polygons is more or less half the size
There are other objects where you can see this advantage better.
Cheers
Patrick

Here another one. Maybe this example is better because you can see that the size is divided by two.
Sorry but textures are missing at this example because they are on another place.

hi patrick,

i´ve read your and robertas posting about free trees in archiRADAR.
Im an absolut Artlantis-beginner and in the moment I´m buying the objects for Artlanis.

So I do not know, if I have to buy everything or if I can take the objects offered in archiRADAR, for example.
Is the quality good? perfect?

Can you help me???

THANK YOU!!!!!
