How do I keep all of my Vectorworks symbols as separate objects in the Artlantis import. Things show up in as large groups and then I am not able to apply textures to individual objects.

Thanks
Mike

Mike,

Vectorworks symbols are not the same as ArtLantisobjects and thus can't be handled like that.
If you export from vectorworks you can do that either by class or by color.

Exporting by class means that every class is a new material in ArtLantis. Since many standard 3Dsymbols in Vectorworks are placed in one class they will be given the same material allthough you intended to give your symbols different materials by giving them another color. So to export by class you will have to preparate you 3dsymbols in Vectorworks by assigning classes to the different materials of your symbol. This asks from you some discipline in the maintanance of your symbol library.

If this is too much of a fuss for you you can also choose to export by color. This way every color used in Vectorworks will be another material in ArtLantis. A simpler way to work. It has some limitations because you can export to a maximum of 256 materials in ArtLantis.

Hope this helps you.

Additional hint,

If you manage to organise your Vectorworks files and Vectorworks symbols in a way that you allways use the same class names for the exact same materials you can save a lot of time.

You then can make an artlantis file that uses all your materials as you allways use them in your Vectorworks files. You can call this your material template file. After exporting to ArtLantis you only need to refer to this template file with the "use reference file.." command. In your new ArtLantis file you allready have the most materials placed and you save a lot of time texturing.
