I believe you would be able to do this with a simple photoshop image with an alpha channel to mask out what you want light to pass through. I am not sure if a .tif or .png would work but I am pretty sure a .psd (photoshop file) would work just dandy.
I would guess that others might have other suggestions to achieve this effect.

Hmm, interesting. I have never thought of trying a wall structure like this. It is pretty easy to tell that this is just a flat plane unfortunately. I'm not sure what the best process would be for the alpha channel but the one you are using seems to have some pretty fuzzy edges going on.
Maybe it would be a better effect if you actually modeled the rocks in 3d then put a chain type of fencing on both sides. This would end up with a much nicer and more accurate shadow effect. I don't have any good rocks as Artlantis objects so I can't really help you with that.
Best alternative might be going to the Sketchup 3D Warehouse (just google it) and search for rocks then import the sketchup file (.skp) directly into artlantis, turn it into an object and add some good shaders to it. You would likely be able to create a great looking gabion wall using this technique.
I can't get further than making a better alpha channel into a stoned wall texture...
Modelling the rocks each one...? Well, yes, that should be a good solution, but the gabion wall I need is so large so I think all those rock 3d-faces will make my computer cry for a while... I'm just seeking for some "transparent" stone wall.
I'll keep the work. Thanks for your comments, jeremy!

I have went onto the 3d warehouse website and created a few nice rocks and boulders that you can use, scale to the shape and size that will work for you and throw a few quick textures or shaders on them. The size of some of them are small so it hopefully won't make your computer cry too hard, haha!

I want an "opac" surface from the exterior, but leting the light go through the stones... Is it possible? Maybe someone has kind of "gabion" object?
Thanks,
Teillu
Hi Mateo,
I am trying to achive the same effect. Did you have any luck?
Where did you get the texture, can you share it with alpha channel?
I am having trouble finding a good texture....Anybody else? I would really apreciate it!
