Dear all,

Working with Artlantis 3 for a while now.
Something I noticed: in almost every movie I make there is some form of flickering in the applied materials.
I model in SketchUp, al faces are orientated appropiatly.
Can someone give me a hint how I can avoid this in my next projects?

Best,
Dave

see attachment for an example.

Hi Dave
This has been a persistent problem in my Artlantis movies. I find that it is usually a single frame that is corrupted. My method of rendering a movie is by saving as separate .tga files then compiling with quicktime pro, if I find a frame which is odd I render it again.

Also I have started to adjust each frame in photoshop, adding sharpness, level adjustment and other effects using (automate - batch)

I still use version 2 as it is far quicker and I can still see this problem persists in version 3. Have a look at the video gallery there are a lot of movies in there with the same bug.

Good Luck

Michael Lennie

I also have flickering problems. I previously thought it was caused by either overlapping geometry or overlapping textures somehow. Its much better in Artlantis since Artlantis Studio 1 came out. Previous versions of Artlantis were way worse.

Well it is kind of distracting your eyes from the subject....
A bug that Abvent has to squash! Maybe in Artlantis 4.
By the way is there an Artlantis roadmap anywhere?

I am kinda fed up with Artlantis 's movie capabilities.
A little flickering okay, but this is getting mad!
I will post my settings in a moment, but what's the point of making a studio version of the product when only stills are working?

Don't get me wrong, I like Artlantis it's intuitive way of working. But I hope someone can tell me if an updated version of Artlantis is coming soon? I am, more and more looking for an alternative to Artlantis.

The flickering is linked to the quality of the intended radiosity calculation. Increase the sampling points on the geometry and set a higher value to the Accuracy, especially to the first range.

The reason of the flickering is the simplified radiosity calculation which is different for each frame in a sequence. The medium and low settings are "cheating" in fact and the more sampling point we have, the closer we will be to the physical reality. Please be aware that higher accuracy values have impact on the rendering time, so you will need to find a good balance between the quality and time.

All this is valid starting with version 3, which has a more sophisticated engine compared to the previous versions. The coming versions will continue to "polish" it and improve more the radiosity sampling.
This tutorial will help you learn more about the radiosity features:

I followed your advise and maxed out the radiosity.
As you can see in the attachment, the problem persists.

I also thought it may be the interior/exterior settings, cause in exterior renders the flicker is far less.

But as you can see in the next post it didn't have any effect.

Please share us some more information about the next release of Artlantis, so we know if it's worth while the wait.

Best,
Dave

This is the same scene as previous with the exterior settings and highest as possible radiosity settings.
