Hi Mews,
obviously not the way you did :-)
OK. I'm just kidding.
Yes, it's really bad that there is no displacement in ATL but you can achieve good looking results without this, too.
The carpet above was made with two textures placed one over the other. The first was the color of the carpet and the second a bump-map giving the structure.
Same with grass. The best looking grass I achieved by placing three different grass-textures one over the other and giving them some transparency and bump. There are some good tutorials in this forum about making grass-shaders, too.
If the camera will be very near to the grass it might help using some grass-objects for this area. You will find several of them at: http://www.archiradar.it/

Hi Antony,
what exactly do you mean? The chimney itself or only the fire?
The chimney was my own design. The fire is a billboard or better said 2 or 3 billboards (one behind the other).
You can find these fire-textures here: http://www.mega-tex.nl/highqualitytextures/thumbnails.php?album=21
You just have to look which texture fits best to your scene and make a billboard or a plane with an alpha-map out of it. Increase ambience of the texture or brightness of the billboard. That's all.
Cheers
Patrick
I attached several billboards with fire I already made by myself.
Just extract. Add a folder called Fire under your media-folder and put all the files in there.

One thing I forgot. This kind of fire works best in ATL 3 where you can give the billboards some transparency.
Then place a light at the bottom of the billboards, best in between two billboards and give this light a 360° and yellow shine.
This will create the effect shown in my two pictures above.
If you work with ATL 2 you have to place one light in front of the billboard and one behind the billboard to create a realistic shine.
helo guys,
hahah.. sory about the ref. image, i cant find a proper one since i post it at office, lot of my work are at home, anyway artlantis does comes without 'displacement'. a bit disadvantages there compare to vray/maxwell, still been using those render machines for a big pay because it took a looong time to render. Anyway, im still experimenting artlantis, currently only using artlantis for quick image for clients. anway, thanks for the info. it does help me to understand this software more.
I have a problem with that beautiful carpet you made.. When I add a grass object on it, The object doesn't end up with the carpet correctly. And I cannot change the colour of the grass...
Did you made the carpet in Artlantis or in you CAD program before?

Hi Spiegart,
do be honest I didn't make the carpet in ATL. I converted the grass aof into an obj with ATL 3. Converted this in 3ds with Accutrans and then imported this 3ds into my CAD. There I made a flat cubic Object 200 x 200 x 3 cm and placed the grass object in one edge. Then I copied the grass object as often as needed and placed it with some overlap.
Ad the end I saved this all again as 3ds and imported this in ATL.
Biggest problem is the fact that this shaggy made out of grass objects has a lot of polygons at the end. But it works pretty good.
Cheers
Patrick
PS. Why can't you change the color of the aof?
I think you only have to delete the added textures and give the aof a standard shader.
