Hi - I've created numerous custom shaders for use in artlantis and find it nearly impossible to get shaders to render as black or almost black. They fade to a light gray and even using a mix colour can't achieve deep rich colours.
In addition, I find that since upgrading to V3 these shaders render with dark pixelation along edges and between surfaces when a dark mix colour is added. I've attached an image here with 3 versions that I think should be self explanatory.
I've tried adjusting lighting, reflectivity, shininess - everything available to change how light reflects off a texture but so far nothing works...
I've also resaved the shaders in V3 in case it is an upgrade compatibility issue - the faded shaders have been a problem since V2, the pixelation is now to V3.
Please help - any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing you have set the mix color for the shader and added black to it? I would say otherwise put a texture on top of that shader (make a simple pure black texture) and set the transparency to where it looks better. It might help.
I am also having a terrible time getting even texture maps with any kind of intensity... I have another thread going, but there are no real answers. I see that renderings here show some great results and am wondering if it's not something terribly easy...
I've tried AMBIENT and COLOR MIXING, but alway DULL, DULL, DULL....
I also tried the SHADER method and tried to create a bump map so that it would at least show depth (yet still dull).. but that didn't even work. The Shader turned even MORE dull and the bump map did not work...

hi jeremy - thanks for the advice and the help, will give it a try but a counter thought:
1) the original texture map is already almost black yet rendering light gray, and
2) adding a plain black texture on top in partial transparency would hide most of the original texture below, defeating the purpose of the original shader.
yes you are right, I am mixing black into the shader map, only because the original map is rending so light. I have adjusted the maps in photoshop until they are so dark they look almost solid black, yet in artlantis they still render as light gray....
