Hello,

I purchased some 3ds bushes and am trying to get them to look the right way in Artlantis.
When i open a bush in Deep Exploration i get the same looks, rectangles with leaves projected on them(see attached file) but when I invert the opacity in DE it looks great!
Well, i saved the file from DE and opened it into Artlanis again but strangely I get the same tree as before(see attached file).
Because I'm new in this world of rendering i could use some help with this.

Hi Douwe
You have to mask out the background colour on the texture map. There are 2 ways of doing this. The first is by viewing the leaf texture map in artlantis, open the colour picker and 'option' or alt click on the colour that surrounds the leaf. The second method is to create an alpha channel in your texture map using photoshop, you can then select 'use alpha channel' to mask out the background

Hope this helps

If the bushes are correctly made, the leaves already have the alpha channel, so it would be enough tu switch it on in the ArtLantis material editor

A few minutes ago i replied to the other thread you started. I've read these answers, and tried to delete the background of the jpg in photoshop and than saved it as an psd, png and tga file. Then i reassigned the texture and selected the apply alpha textures. It shows only a black bush and the textures of the leafs are gone. Any idea what i've done wrong?

Hi Martijn
Do you have the file with a separate alpha channel? a black and white version?

I've erased the background in photoshop like this

http://www.axialis.com/tutorials/tutorial-misc001.html

I can get you the file tomorrow, but it's the same as shown in the tutorial.

Are your bushes uv mapped?

It seems as though you can't apply a uv mapped leaf to the surface.

Try using a different bush and see if that is your problem. You can get some from archiradar.com.

Attachment : BUSH01B.3ds

I didn't have the time to try it with a different object until now. I downloaded a tree from archiradar and it worked immediatly. This is the 3ds file wich i can't get to work properly. I will attach the .gif that worked for the tree from archiradar in the next post. I've paid a lot for the trees so i hope they will work :(

When I export the 3ds file to an object file and save it in an different map and open the object file he can't find the leaf texture. If I reassign the texture by selecting the folder with the texture than I can select the color by alt clicking the texture and the bush looks great. But when I place the same texture manually by adding it through the Texture Mapping menu it doesn't work. Verry strange. Is this some sort of a bug?

No it is not a bug. You bought an object that has UV-mapped textures. ArtLantis shows UV-mapped textures on objects correctly and so they look great.
There is just no way to make UV-maps yourself in ArtLantis so any textures you use yourself have no UV-mapping. That is the difference
