When I click on a postcard and drag one shader from it onto my preview window, my model gets the shader applied to alright. Only, afterwards, I can't seem to change its color.

For example, if the shader on the postcard is light grey, and I apply it to my wall, and then into the Shaders pane change the color for the applied shader, the color sampler changes in the Shaders pane, but my wall is still light grey.

Am I doing something wrong? Have I not understood it right?

Can it be that you applied a shader that has a texture over it?
Then changing the color of the shader is not visible because the shader is covered by the texture.
In such a case you need to change the color of the texture in the texture mapping dialog.
