I converted a nice model of a sconce to be used in an indoor scene. In the preview everything was pretty fine. When I opened the finished rendering there were some ugly effects in the shadows emitted by this lamps. I never had this before. I changed the shaders on the sconce. I changed the light source. Nothing helped by now. Has someone an idea? Is it a bug?
I will attache the aof of this sconce, too.
Greetings
Patrick

Here is the archive file. The sconce attached to a wall.
If someone has an idea it really would be helpful.

I forgot to mention that all the settings (antialiasing/radiosity)were set on high.

Meanwhile I found out that it is the glasstube producing this stupid effect. Somebody an idea how to get rid of this effect?

Hello patrick,

I've downloaded your scene and I have the same result.

We're going to check this deeper.

Hello Alain,
because of the model really looking great I already tried to repair this sconce. I made an obj/3ds and took it to Sketchup (freeware). I smoothed the glasstube and in Sketchup everything was looking fine. I went back to ATL and made a new aof out of it with the same result.
I'm sure it's the tube. Maybe I have to delete it and model it new in Sketchup.
But I still do not understand where this stairway looking shadow is coming from because the tube is looking absolutely fine.

Hi Alain,
if you tell the material of the glasstube not generate shadows the shadows in general are getting better but the sconce does not look realistic any longer. I think it must be the model itself?

I made another test and I'm not quiet sure if it's really a problem of the glasstube. I took another sconce with glasstube and placed some lights inside. Same problem with shadows again. I think it's a problem of ATL if light is emitted through a glasstube?

Hello Aptrick,

The problem is not easy, just because he light source goes thru the glass and then project soft shadows. In this case we have artefacts. Every time you'll have a light source behind a glass with soft shadows we'll have this issue.

This is not a simple issue and we'll try to fix it.

Thanks for your files.

Hello Alain,
as I already said, thanks for your quick response. But if this always happen I can't understand why this not happened in the picture above. In this bathroom scene I also used a sconce with glass and a lightsource in the center of this rectengular glass.
The light had also soft shadows and there were no artefacts at all.
I will try this lamp in the scene I already send you. I will post if it worked or not.
Greetings

Hello to all,
as I said I tried the same scene with lamps having rectengular glass tubes. And there is no artefact at all. So the problem only appears if light causing soft shadows is going through rounded glass tubes.
It's a pity. A lot of good lamps could not be used creating realistic scenes by night.
