Good day.

We are currently working on a very big project, a tourist resort on ~40.000m2 of terrain, with very different house and building types. It has four or five big "clumps" of trees (small forests).

Now, we want to make several renders of each spot, of each "zone", with the maximum 3d detail, and that will inevitably include lots of trees, greenery and "vegetables".

In order to maximize performance and flexibility, it would be *great* if I could somehow group objects (billboards and 3d objects) and shut them off depending on each render. This I am aware that is not possible (as far as we know). Perhaps a good addition to be thought out.

Now, I am asking you in working out solutions for my management problem. Should I use different files, with different objects? What if many trees are shared by some different files? Can I copy objects from one file to the other? (I tried to copy objects but was unable to). Should I use a "main" file with the main set of trees that I could then reference from each "sub" file?

And what are the real memory impacts of these choices?

For instance, what are the impacts of having a full scenario of, say, 10/20 million polygons of objects (very easy to achieve), on the memory? If I make a cutting polygon for each specific render, will it help?

I am somewhat lost in here in respect to the very best route we can go for. Thanks in advance

Original size

i have working on a big project a few months ago
what i did was making the scene whit all the object for the overall
views like the first pict at a moment that the critical point was reach i made a referents file so now i have a file to made to overall views and for the detail i use a new file and use the referents file than a delete what i don, need and i cet space to place new objects call this file view 1 and so on
it was for me the best way but it has to organize a bit
a place all the file in the batch render so if i finish the day a could render all the files a had made by drinking a beer
greetings peter -:)))

What version of Artlantis are you using? In version 3, you can organize objects on layers, so you can hide the one you don't need. This way you can gain rendering time and a faster navigation as well.
In case you experience rendering problems, you may also try the 64-bit alpha version (still V3). You can download it from this site.
