Hi everyone,
Im' sta

I'm almost done with the PC configuration:

DELL STUDIO XPS 800 DT:
Intel Core™ i7 860 (2,80 GHz,caché L3 de 8 MB), Memory DDR3 de 6.144 MB (2 x 2 GB) (2 x 1 GB) 1.067 MHz.

I only have a doubt: which is the best graphic card i should choose for Artlantis? I searched the forum but could not find an answer.

In the Dell XPS 8000 i can choose between a Geforce GT220 (1GB) or a Geforce GTS240 (1 GB). Which one of the two is the best or would it be better a Nvidia Quadro?

Thank you very much for any help!

Hi,

Geforce GT220 and Geforce GTS240 are high end very powerful DirectX (for gamers) graphic cards. However they are suitable forOpenGl applications also since they are very fast.

We have no experience with any of them yet.
In general Artlantis use graphic card for displaying and use its OpenGl resources when rotating a perspective camera and the real-time radiosity preview switch to OpenGl mode.
When rendering an image or when the application is updating the real-time preview the graphic card has almost nothing to do.
It does not participate in the rendering.
Quadro cards are rather for OpenGl processes.

I'm not sure if it worth to purchase for an expensive Graphic card just because of Artlantis

Hu Meszes,

thank you for answering.
I'm waiting to confirm the putrchase of the PC because i want to be sure to get the best graphic card for Arltantis to help me working faster and previewing faster. I surfed the web but strangely couldn't find a thread about the best graphic card for Artlantis...
It's the last doubt before proceeding with the purchase of both pc and Artlantis.
Could you give me some model?

Thank you very much!

Roberto

Hi Meszes and thank you for your suggestions.
I almost configured my PC but the graphic card is still a problem:

The memory of the card helps or not?
I'm now looking for a NVIDIA Quadro FX 580 512 MB.
Do you think 512 MB is enough or 1GB would help ?

Thank you

Roberto

Hi Bazière,

I checked the configuration and the graphic card with Abvent team and they told me that both the Geforce GT 220 1 GB and the NVIDIA Quadro FX 580 512 MB are enough for Artlantis if combined with a Quad processor and 6GB Ram.

Yet i didn't confirm the order with Dell, i think this week i'll do it and it will be one of these two graphic card.

Hope this can help you

Ciao
