Alright right,
three years after the first benchmark thread here comes the new one. Thanks to all who contributed data and kept things alive!
I know we should have had one for Artl v2, but when that one came around I didn't care too much about it. For the v3 benchmark I followed a little different philosophy: instead of a dull, no textures scene I did something more appealing. Real textures, freznel water, post effects. The downside that I have to share some copyrighted textures and models. To compromise I did not use vegetation and I scaled down the texture of the business man. The resolution this time is pretty high, just to leave some headroom for faster computers.
And don't worry, I will later start a thread presenting some data from my first benchmark thread.

How to:
- quit all applications but Artlantis 3
- open the .atl file from the download
- go to camera Benchmark
- hit render ... the settings should be: Resolution 1920 x 1080, all quality settings (antialiasing, radiocity) to High
Make a screenshot of the resulting picture + the rendering time and post it here. In the posting please also provide info on: Artlantis version; operating system version; CPU type and speed. Also provide info on your graphics card, even though it should not matter for render speed.
Please keep this thread free of spam and chat, making it attractive for external links. If you have questions on hardware or else, post them in the appropriate subforum.

It is pretty disturbing to see some of the PC's with such high specs getting such bad render speeds while MAC's just blow past them. I really am having trouble understanding why this is so. Is this something that will be fixed?

Nice improvement with this update, seeing the time drop by more than half is a great thing. Would love to see that number keep dropping though! ;)
I think at this point it will be within this computers reach to start putting Artlantis 3 to use for some full fledged renderings. It's time to start putting this release through its paces and see how it handles a larger model.

But you have to be aware of some facts.
This notebook is:
- heavy!!!
- louder than most others!!!
- working without external power will only las 45 minutes

I ran the test the second time and this time it is faster.
Time : 2:32
This time i tried to monitor the CPU and GPU usage(using GPU-Z).
I found out that only CPU is utilised and GPU isn't used at all.
Most performers in this thread uses Intel Xeon yea? with lotsa cores and stuff.

Pretty respectable score Joost especially for a laptop. I think the scene complexity (textures, polygons, lights etc) is what influences the amount of ram used i have rendered images that have used over 6 GB of ram before it's just this scene is not really that complex. You may be able to shave some time of this score by placing the artlantis archive folder and the final render destination on a ram disk. You have 8 so you can give some away temporarily it's free & easy:

Yeah that's fast Andreev sandy bridge definitely looks interesting. The xeons are not ready yet for the mac pro but perhaps we will see a 16 core mac pro next year i will be drooling. AMD are supposed to have the answer with bulldozer but i just can't see them performing as well as sandy bridge price wise they will be cheaper of course.

I don't think it makes a big difference only when artlantis writes or reads a file i expect it's worth a couple of seconds no more. The CPU and ram is the big effect.

Hey TC yes that does suck a bit mate, but i see you are not using the latest version i think the newer one fixes the speed issues.
I don't use vectorworks i'm afraid but can't you use the last plugin is it not backwards compatible ? Do you still have the old version of vectorworks ? I hope you can find a workaround in the meantime.
